Sunday March 10th: Gather at 6:30 p.m. for Refreshments/Presentation Begins at 7:00 p.m.
The pastor will be kicking off lent with a Special Presentation entitled, “Death and Resurrection in the Bible and in the 21st Century.” He will be seeking to explain: 1) Why we have a living hope for life beyond the grave, and 2) Why the Biblical Doctrine of Resurrection matters so much in a time when scientists question the existence of the soul.
Sunday March 17th: Gather at 6:30 p.m. for Refreshments/Concert Begins at 7:00 p.m.
We are excited to announce a concert by the Giannini Brass! We want to have 200 people in our sanctuary for this performance. The Giannini features Anita Cirba and Ken Wilmot on trumpet, Joe Mount on horn, Guy Kelpin on trombone and Matt Ransom on Tuba. Anita says that the program will feature a variety of music, sacred and secular. We want our church to be known as the place where people can always hear great music, and the Giannini gives us the opportunity to really advertise something special. Plan to come, and plan to bring your family, friends and neighbors. http://www.gianninibrass.com/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_r-d-Dkg7Sc
Sunday March 24th: Gather at 6:30 p.m. for Refreshments/Program Begins at 7:00 p.m.
We are equally excited to announce a program by the musicians of Fries Memorial under the able leadership of Br. Michael Westmoreland. Michael will be leading us through some of the great passion music of Lent. Plan to come, and plan to bring your family, friends and neighbors.
Sunday March 31st:Gather at 6:30 p.m. for Refreshments/Play Begins at 7:00 p.m.
This is a biggie. Br. John Robinson who once taught 4th grade at nearby Brunson Elementary will be with us to present the Passion Narrative from the Gospel of St. Mark. Several years ago I saw John present the entire gospel of Mark before a crowd of 150 and it is remarkable that only two people could tear themselves away before it was over, and they had very good reason. Several other people had actually planed to leave at the intermission, and they simply could not. John will be starting at chapter 8:1 and going through the end of chapter 16. The presentation will take approximately 45 minutes and there will be no intermission.
Sunday April 7th:Gather at 6:30 p.m. for Refreshments/Presentation Begins at 7:00 p.m.
Our intern, Adriana Craver is drawing near the completion of her service at Fries. We will miss her! She has graciously agreed to provide a program built around her insights into the great Hebrew Bible book of Lamentations. I don’t know the details of her presentation, but I can think of few more challenging and appropriate scriptures to study during the lenten season. This should be a wonderful preparation for Palm Sunday, and for Holy Week.
Holy Week and Easter: April 14th to April 21
Our schedule for 2019 will approximate lasts year’s. High-lights include the Hosanna on Palm Sunday, nightly readings in the Prayer Garden, Maundy Thursday Communion, Friday’s Tenebrae Service, and the Easter Sunrise Service. All evening services begin at 7:00 p.m. Easter Sunday Worship is at 10:30 a.m. I am told our numbers shrink because so many people are up all-night making rounds with the Salem Band and working at or attending the Sunrise Service at God’s Acre. Me—I can’t imagine not preaching on Easter Sunday, and I will be doing just that. I hope many of you can join me, with friends and family.
I hope you can see why I am excited about the Lenten and Easter Season!
