Thanksgiving
This Sunday (November 23) we will be giving thanks to God for all of the blessings of hope, peace, joy, and love that we have received. Please be sure to bring your green Financial Commitment Cards and your gold Time and Talent Commitment Cards to our Sunday morning service. In a spirit of thanksgiving, we will offer our gifts of time, talent and treasure to the work of God through our congregation. Sunday evening we will continue our Thanksgiving celebration with our Thanksgiving Dinner and Lovefeast. The dinner begins at 5:45 and the lovefeast at 7:00. Invite your family and friends to join us in worship and thanksgiving.
Advent
Sunday November 30: For this first Sunday of Advent, we will have a Fries Family Christmas Tree in the sanctuary. To decorate our tree, please bring a Christmas tree ornament that is a symbol of hope for your and your family. These decorations will remain on our tree throughout the Advent and Christmas seasons and kept to be used on future Christmas trees.
Sunday December 7: On the second Sunday of Advent, we will remember how Christ brings peace to our lives and to the world through his death on the cross. As we celebrate Holy Communion, we are asking people to bring offerings of peace. During this season of the year, we need coats and blankets for the homeless, food for the hungry, Christmas gifts for the poor, and blankets for the sick. All of these offerings reflect the peace that Christ brings to us and calls us to share with the world.
Please bring your gifts of peace-
W-S Overflow Homeless Shelter: Blankets, Coats, Sweaters, Gloves, Thick winter socks, Toothpaste and Deodorant
Sunnyside Ministry: jars of peanut butter
Project Linus: Fleece in child appropriate colors and patterns (1.5 to 2 yards)
Forsyth Jail & Prison Ministry : Deodorant (stick or solid only), Toothpaste (6-8oz) Soap (bath size), Shampoo (regular size bottle), Toothbrushes (individually packaged) Lotion (regular size bottle)
Project New Hope: wrapped gifts for the children
December 14: On the third Sunday of Advent and we share our joy! After gathering for a brief worship service, we will take our joy out to the world. We will leave from church and head in many different directions. Some will go around the neighborhood and sing Christmas carols as an invitation to come and worship Christ the newborn king at our Christmas Eve Lovefeasts and Candle Services, others will take our gifts of peace to the people who need them most. We will all gather back at the church for a joyful celebration lunch.
December 21: We celebrate the fourth Sunday of Advent with the Children’s Lovefeast and Candle Service. It is a celebration of love, the love Christ has for us and the love we share with each other and the world. Our youth and children will help us lead worship and begin our celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Please invite your family, friends, and neighbors to this beautiful service.
Our Christmas Eve Lovefeasts and Candle Services will be on Wednesday December 24 at 4:00 and 6:30.
